Special Interest Group - Networking

Face-to-Face Networking for SLANSW Members

Term 2 Meeting:

Thursday 8th May at 4.30pm

The next Networking Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting with be held at Abbotsleigh Senior School on May 8, between 4:30 – 5:30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other like-minded library staff and SLANSW members.

At this Networking SIG event we will continue our Professional Learning and Reading Club.

Once you have registered the following four resources will be shared for us to view, read and discuss at the meeting -

  • Australian Media Literacy Alliance’s Media Literacy Framework
  • UNESCO Media and Information Literacy resources
  • Media Smarts resources, produced by Canada’s Centre for Digital Media Literacy
  • Janicke-Bowles, S. et.al. Digital Flourishing: Conceptualizing and Assessing Positive Perceptions of Mediated Social Interactions. Journal of Happiness Studies (2023) 24:1013–1035 https://doi.org/10.1007/s10902-023-00619-5

Some of these resources provide great teaching tools, while others will prompt you to think about how we develop Information, Media and Digital Literacy and develop positive relationships with media in our communities. Karen Seeneevassen, Head of Library and Learning Enrichment at Abbotsleigh, will lead a collaborative review of these resources.

Opportunities for networking, afternoon tea, and an informal tour of the new Betty Archdale Library which was officially opened on March 29, will also be available.

As a SLANSW member you are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to add 2 hours (pre-reading & participation) to your accrual of 100 hours of professional development.

This SIG is a platform to support members and encourage ongoing dialogue in our professional learning community.  It is also only available to SLANSW members as a benefit of membership.

Afternoon Tea will be provided.

How do I participate?
