The second SLANSW Professional Learning Summit of 2026 will be held in live online mode in the SLANSW Zoom Room, on Friday September 11, from 9:00 am – 3:00pm. The theme of the Summit is All the Literacies: Leading and Learning in the Digital Era. Our keynote speakers are Dr Kay Oddone (Director of Linking Learning Advisory), June Wall (Online Learning Tutor University of Western Sydney and Adjunct Lecturer CSU) and Jac Manison (Day of AI). They will be accompanied by a number of talented and inspiring presenters, as well as demonstrations from industry experts.
Our program is also structured to foster networking with like-minded library professionals in breakout sessions as well as industry partners through our Vendor Spotlights. As a SLANSW member you are encouraged to take advantage of this great opportunity to build your professional expertise through keynote speakers and workshops which will add close to five hours of professional development.

Dr Kay Oddone – Director of Linking Learning Advisory
Charting the Course: Future Ready Library Leadership
In this keynote, Dr Kay Oddone explores what current trend and horizon reports reveal about three issues shaping school libraries now and into the future. Rather than predicting the future, she shares practical tools for reading it, and shows how curation, reading culture and everyday relationships position library professionals as strategic leaders, regardless of their title or the role that they hold.

From the Field to the Framework: Building information fluency for the age of AI — and why it belongs to teacher librarians
This keynote tells the story of how the IFF was made: where it came from, how it was tested and grown, and how it came to meet a mediated world the older models never imagined. Come to see how a framework is further developed and leave ready to make it your own.

Fiona Philip (Anglican Church Grammar School, Brisbane)
Creating AI Chatbots for Reader Advisory and Beyond
This practical session will explore how to design, test, and refine conversational AI tools for library settings. The session will cover the basics of chatbot technology, walk through real-world examples, and discuss use cases beyond reader advisory, such as research support and service navigation. Participants will leave with actionable strategies, ethical guidelines, and hands-on frameworks to begin building their own AI chatbot—no coding background required.
Jacqueline Manison (Day of AI)
K-12 Presentation
This hands-on PD explores the fundamentals of AI, effective prompting strategies, and practical classroom strategies. Participants will understand how Gen AI works, experiment with Gen AI tools and leave with ready-to-use strategies that support student learning, critical thinking, and academic integrity.
Maki Ryland (Kincoppal-Rose Bay School of the Sacred Heart)
Glass Box Feedback: Turning AI Chatbots into Metacognitive Writing Partners
This session takes participants through an action research project in which an AI chatbot was used to develop student writing skills, shifting the AI away from just being an opaque “black box” to an effective learning tool. Participants will be taken through the process of co-constructing a custom AI chatbot with students, as well as how to assess the suitability of AI platforms in terms of student safety, access and equity. Work samples will be shown that illustrate both writing development and student perceptions of using AI and participants will be shown how to use the chatbot themselves.

Teaching and Leading in the Gen AI era: Strategy and Practice
This session is designed to provide practical strategies on utilisingGenerative AI within teaching programs. The presentation will highlight how two different schools have adopted AI within their curriculum and embedded it within the classroom. Attendees will gain a practical framework and actionable resources to advocate for and deliver AI literacy programs in their own schools.
